Tensegrities is a concept that been adopted from the marvellous movement of muscle and bones in a human framework. Tensegrity has widely a smart use concept fro the industry such as architecture, product and interior design. Tensegrity placed a hug amount of the individuals of tension and compression towards the establishment of a prosperous structure. Through out the summary of this thesis, tensegrity in the form of architecture or furniture that grant the capable to elites in the consumer bewildering yet euphoric experience are wholly presented.

Tensegrity Sphere
Tensegrity Disco Ball
After achieving the understanding of tensegrity sphere, I have decided to make a disco ball of tensegrity sphere. I have created this tensegrity with my own designed struts and cover the struts with mirror mosaics to create the effect of reflecting. When the tensegrity disco ball been dazzled with tri-colour light which is red, blue and yellow, the lights been reflected into small pieces that shimmer all around the space. The shadow that been created by the light are total emerged with the 3 colours and form into a overlapping shadow effect.

New Direction of Tensegrity
This is a 3 struts based tensegrity and be called as the ‘Tri-prism’. This structure has been discovered by using the same concept of building a tensegrity sphere. Connecting each struts of one third of the other struts. This structure has 3 based to stand on the platform that actually stabilized to the whole structure to stand-alone.

The ‘Cage’ is mainly created with 4 based tensegrity struts. Using the same concept of building a tensegrity sphere has discovered this tensegrity. Connecting each struts of one third of the other struts. This structure has 3 based to stand on the platform that actually stabilized to the whole structure to stand-alone.

The ‘Crown’ is mainly created with 5 based tensegrity struts that look like a star shape and it slowly connected to one third of each tendon. This is the most stable structure compare to the other 2 because it has 5 legs to stand on and all the forces can be spread freely.

Other Tensegrity Structures
Tensegrity Ring is a continuum of repetitive of simple 3 struts tensegrity, joining each end of the tendons with other end of struts of another 3 struts tensegrity. In order to produce a good outcome of this structure, every single 3 struts tensegrity has to be perfect. The experiment I have tried on is unsuccessful because of the shape of struts I have used and the imbalanced of each tensegrity itself. Hence, the imbalance structure actually form a special shape and it look like a beanbag or a chair.

This tensegrity Ellipse is totally a different kind of structure compare to those that been shown above, this structure is really easy to construct comparing to the others because it has the major of simplicity on just calculating the length of struts and its own tendons. This is a stand alone structure which it actually has almost the same area of support on each side of the structure, the stability of structure is easily being control due to the amount of force and pressure which, being bolster by tendons.

Tensegrity Ellipse : Form and Evolution
The tensegrity ellipse is very flexible due to the over calculated struts and the stretchable tendons that has been used. Those pictures below show the flexibility of the structure while stretching all over; this can be form into a wearable tensegrity structure.
Lighting
Most of the tensegrity structure can be used for lighting; there are always slots in the middle of the structure that can hold a light bulb. The main can be used as table lamp, standing lamp, ceiling pendent and more.

Furniture
This structure will be a 5 strut based tensegrity called ‘the crown’ which are more stabilize when the 3 struts because of the force been separated into 5 directions. By utilized the concept of simple tensegrity structure that using only 6 struts and 24 tendons to build into continue structure represents the chair and table.
This is the final outcome on a prototype tensegrity table, which that designs into a 1:1 scale. The model made out from 18mm thick wooden sticks and swapping up with repair wrap at each end of the struts to look better and it harden as steel. The tabletop has been done just with simple 2mm MDF board, this prototype has been carefully constructed and it’s a big scale model that needed a team to build it.
